Willow Class

Hello and welcome to Willow Class.

The Year One team are Mrs Amos [Class Teacher]  Mrs Foster and Mrs Craig [Teaching Assistants]

Also, Mrs Hunt teaches in Year One on a Monday and Jack teaches the Monday outdoor PE lesson.

We hope you have an amazing year with us and we very much look forward to seing you all in September.

PE Days

Outdoor PE is on Monday 

Indoor PE is on Wednesday

Please ensure children are wearing the correct PE kit.

Plain white t-shirt

Black shorts or leggings.

Trainers or plimsolls

Long hair tied back

Snack

Fruit is provided to your child each day free of charge.

If you wish for your child to have additional morning snack then snack money is £5 per half term.

We can no longer accept cash at the classroom door so please can you pay through parent mail. 

Juice or milk is also available at morning play and the children have access to water throughout the day. 

Reading in Year One

Learning to read is one of the most important skills that our children need to master in their first years of school.  We want children to have a love of reading and be confident and enthusiastic to read at home and at school.

Children will bring home two new reading books every Friday and these should be kept in their reading folder along with their reading record book.  During the week an additional 'take home' book will be sent home which is matched to the phonic sounds your child is learning in school.

We encourage children to read out loud to an adult every day, or at least 5 times a week, for 5-10 minutes each time.

Please sign the reading record each time your child reads and ensure the reading folder comes to school every day.

Children who have read 5 times will move up on our 'Star Reader Chart' and their names will be read out in Celebration Assembly on a Friday.
