The importance of Oracy

At Lumbertubs, we believe that Oracy underpins all aspects of learning. Without having effective Oracy skills, we believe that children could be at a disadvantage. The ability to communicate effectively, whether that is through pictures, sign language or speech, is a life skill which all children need in education and beyond school.

Evidence shows that there are many advantages for Oracy which is why at Lumbertubs, this is at the heart of our daily life at school. The ‘Oracy on a Page’ document explains the four main areas, outlined by the Cambridge University Press, which we adopted and use throughout our curriculum. The four areas include Physical Oracy, Linguistic Oracy, Cognitive Oracy and Social and Emotional Oracy.
